Silicon (Si) Mirror is an important component in laser processing optical path systems, which reflect light according to the predetermined route and direction. Si mirror is one of the most prevalent reflective mirrors for lasers. The inherent transmission range 1 - 25 µm spectral range, low cost, decent thermal endurance, and durability render silicon mirrors an excellent option for CO2 lasers. A silicon mirror consists of a silicon substrate and a reflective gold coating, which introduce a vulnerableness to the silicon mirror, therefore Si mirrors are recommended for lower power CO2 lasers as flat fold mirrors, and in clean conditions where back spatter and dust will not cause catastrophic damage of the mirrors. These reflective Silicon mirrors or total reflectors can be used as rear reflectors and fold mirrors and as beam benders, which save space, help reduce light loss, and reserve laser power. It is a great optical accessory for laser equipment such as laser cutting machines, laser engraving machines, and laser marking machines.
North Optics offers Standard and Custom Silicon Mirrors. Regarding the standard silicon mirrors, various dimensions with diameters from 12mm to 200mm and thicknesses from 3mm to 15mm are available. Advanced polishing and coating techniques are utilized to ensure reflectance above 99% for unpolarized radiation, and a laser damage threshold of 4 kW for Ø 10 mm, minimizing scattering and wavefront distortion and optimizing mirror performance over prolonged use in harsh laser environments. Silicon mirrors with custom dimensions and specific precision requirements are also available.
